  • Grace + Kenny Pick: Cafe Van Kleef (1621 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA 94612): "Live music + freshly squeezed juice for greyhouse (vodka + grapefruit). Makes it easy to pretend it's healthy, right?"

Dinner

  • Miss Olies (901 Washington St, Oakland, CA 94607): "Southern and Caribbean inspired food. Amazingly awesome."
  • AS B-Dama (Swans Market 907 Washington St Oakland, CA 94607): "Japanease food beyond Sushi, run by the same folks as Geta on Piedmont Ave"
  • Shan Dong (328 10th St Oakland, CA 94607): "Northern style Chinese food. Get the hand rolled noodles. NOMSSSSSSSSS"
  • Forge (66 Franklin St, Oakland, CA 94607) "Really good pizza." "The only place in the Bay Area with fresh cheese curds"
  • Grace + Kenny Pick: BayWolf (3853 Piedmont Ave, Oakland, CA 94611): "Spendy, but worth trying to go before they close. Classic Californian food"
  • Grace + Kenny Pick: Souley Vegan (301 Broadway, Oakland CA 94607): "Actually good vegan food? Yes. The fried tofu is almost as good as Grace's Aunt Ann's fried catfish"

Brunch

  • Brown Sugar Kitchen (2534 Mandela Parkway, Oakland CA 94607): "The second best chicken and waffles anywhere ever."
  • The Terrace Room (Lake Merritt Hotel & Apartment, 1800 Madison St, Oakland, CA 94612): "Food is good, but the view is better. Also, bottomless mimosas"
  • Grace + Kenny Pick: 900 Grayson (900 Grayson St, Berkeley, CA): "My mom wants to go here every time we're here. Get the chicken and waffles, they're heavenly. And be sure to get both the gravy and the syrup. It sounds weird but it's perfect."
  • Grace + Kenny Pick: Blackberry Bistro (4240 Park Blvd, Oakland, CA 94602): "The perfect brunch. The frittata with everything in it (bacon, corn, potatoes, pesto and cheese) with a biscuit is pretty much what all other brunches want to be. That or their potato pancakes with a side of chicken sausage. Be sure to get a latte in a bowl."

Coffee, Snacks, and Dessert

  • Coffee: Farley's East (33 Grand Ave, Oakland, CA 94610) or Modern Coffee Oakland (411 13th St and 381 19th St, Oakland, CA) Also, Blue Bottle Coffee is from here. Not Brooklyn. The original site: 300 Webster Street.
  • Snacks: Sweets from Miette (85 Webster St, Oakland or the Ferry Building in SF). Also, goodies from the Lake Merritt Farmers Market on Saturday (Grand Ave and Lakeshore Ave) or the Jack London Square Market on Sunday.
  • Dessert: Fentons (4226 Piedmont Ave), the ice cream shop featured in the movie "Up!". The ice cream is great but their messy sundaes are even better. A close second is Tuckers in Alameda (1349 Park St, Alameda). And different but amazingly delicious is Ici (2948 College Ave. Berkeley). They have the weirdest limited batch ice creams.
